The extreme, concentrated demand for MexicoGP tickets historically threatened to overwhelm ticketing infrastructure, leading to potential platform instability, frustrating site crashes, and a degraded fan experience. Furthermore, this massive influx of traffic was often targeted by malicious bot activity and ticket touts (scalpers). The objective was to secure the e-commerce architecture against unprecedented traffic spikes during the highly anticipated presale windows, whilst simultaneously blocking fraudulent activity and simultaneous multi-device purchases.
Operating at the intersection of technical project management and digital consumer experience, I collaborated directly with Ticketmaster to integrate and optimise a robust ‘Virtual Queue’ (Fila Virtual) system.
My role involved not only coordinating the technical deployment alongside our ticketing partner but also spearheading the strategic communication rollout to educate the fanbase on this new security layer. I designed the user-journey messaging to manage expectations, alleviate anxiety, and guide users smoothly from the waiting room to the final checkout. By intelligently buffering the massive influx of traffic—which frequently exceeded 78,000 concurrent users at peak times—we successfully mitigated server crashes, effectively neutralised automated touting bots, and delivered a secure, equitable, and frictionless purchasing experience for genuine fans.
