The global pandemic forced a year-long postponement of the physical Grand Prix, creating an unprecedented challenge: how to maintain brand relevance, sustain fan engagement, and drive revenue during an operational hiatus. The brand needed an innovative, purely digital solution to keep the #F1ESTA spirit alive, prevent the fanbase from disengaging, and ultimately bridge the gap to the rescheduled event.
To pivot from a physical race to an immersive digital experience, we launched the ‘Virtual MexicoGP’. We built an exclusive, limited-capacity metaverse environment where fans could create bespoke digital avatars inspired by the official mascot, Mario Achi, participate in interactive games, and attend exclusive virtual interviews with motorsport legends.
I directed the overarching omnichannel communication and campaign tracking for this initiative. My remit spanned coordinating the website infrastructure, orchestrating the email marketing workflows, and driving the social media promotional strategy to secure registrations. Beyond just driving awareness and engagement, my core focus was commercial conversion. Following the overwhelming success of the virtual event, I engineered a highly targeted post-event email campaign offering exclusive promotional pricing for the 2021 Grand Prix. This strategy successfully monetised a free digital activation, transforming high-volume data capture and user engagement into immediate, measurable ticket sales revenue.
